Poha

Poha is a popular breakfast and snack quickly made with beaten rice or flattened rice, spices, peanuts and potatoes. It is a part of Maharashtrian and Gujarati cuisine, but its taste and ease of making has made it extremely popular in other regions of India also.

Ingredients :

  • 2 cup of thick Poha (Flatten Rice Flakes)
  • ½ cup of boiled Potatoes (cut into small cube)
  • 1 tsp of Mustard seeds
  • 2 Tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2-3 Green Chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp of Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp of Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp of Chaat Masala
  • ½ tsp of Garam Masala
  • ½ tsp of Black Salt
  • Salt to Taste
  • 2 tsp of Coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2-3 tsp of Refined Oil
  • 2 tsp of Peanuts (Dry Roasted)

Procedure :

1. Take Poha in a large strainer. Gently wash it 1 to 2 times under running water. Drain excess water through the strainer. (Do not soak Poha in water). 

2. Heat 2-3 tsp of oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it starts crackling, add green chillies and chopped tomatoes. Cook for 2-3 min or until tomatoes gets softer.

3. Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, black salt, garam masala and chaat masala. Mix everything properly.

4. Add boiled potato cubes and salt to taste. Now add soaked poha and mix well. Cook for 2 min.

5. Add roasted peanuts and chopped coriander leaves. Tasty Poha is ready. It tastes best when served with tea in the breakfast.
