Basket Chaat (Tokri Chaat)
Basket Chaat or Tokri Chaat is a North Indian snack / dish. It is made by grated raw potatoes fried in shape of basket / tokri filled with different stuffings.
Ingredients :
[For Tokri]
- 3-4 Grated Raw Potato ( Washed and Soaked in water)
- Refined Oil
- Two Steel Sieve [छन्नी] (One large and one small).
[For Filling]
- 1 Cup Boiled Chickpeas (Pressure cooked with 1/2 tsp of salt)
- 2-3 Boiled Potatoes (Cut into small cubes)
- 1 Tomato (finely chopped)
- 1 Onion (finely chopped)
- 1 Cup Sweetened Curd
- Jaggery Chutney (गुड़ की चटनी)
- Few Chopped Coriander leaves
- 2 Chopped Green Chillies
- 2 tsp of Roasted Cumin & Coriander powder
- 1 Tsp of Red Chilli powder
- 1 Tsp of Chaat Masala
- Salt according to taste
Procedure :
1. Firstly, in a Pan or Kadhai, put oil on a medium flame to heat up.
2. Now, take out the grated potato in a strainer and leave for 5 to 10 min. Then take a cotton cloth and put grated potatoes over it and dry it thoroughly.
3. Now take large sieve and put some grated potatoes and give it a shape of basket. Gently shape it into a bowl.
4. Now put small sieve over the large sieve. (If you don't have two sieve, then you can use a big spoon over your sieve).
5. Carefully dip the sieve in hot oil for frying the basket. Fry until golden brown for about 3 to 4 min.
6. Now remove the upper sieve and with the help of spoon put some oil inside the basket to cook it completely.
7. Leave the sieve to cool down for 1-2 mins and then gently tap and remove the basket. Similarly make all the baskets.
8. Now in a bowl, put Chickpeas, boiled Potato cubes, chopped Onion, chopped Tomato, Green Chillies, 1 tsp of Red Chilli powder, 1 tsp of Chaat masala and Salt according to taste. Mix it properly.
9. Now in a serving plate take a basket, put 1 to 2 tsp of filling. Add sweetened Curd and Jaggery Chutney. Sprinkle some cumin coriander powder and Chopped Coriander leaves.
10. Delicious Basket (Tokri) Chaat is ready to serve.
